Updating a kitchen can be a time consuming and expensive task if expecting to install new countertops and top of the line appliances. Instead, significant results can happen, inexpensively and timely, in just a few days… with a couple gallons of paint!
Rave Red by Sherwin Williams was already featured within the kitchen area. The addition of Anjou Pear and Honeycomb on the wall warms the space, and Turkish Coffee by Sherwin Williams unified the cabinetry and anchored the island space.
Anjou Pear, applied to the cabinets above the refrigerator giving impact to the entire wall. Removing cabinet doors created a Buffet and the color created a bold statement! Open cabinets allows for ease of function as well as showcasing the collection of Fiesta Dishes.
The trash compactor shown within the photo on the left was no longer functional. Removing the trash compactor provided the ideal space for a bookshelf. Cookbooks are now easily accessible. Breaking up the shelves with a basket provides a space for magazines and adds visual interest.
A power outlet lies beneath the countertop, which is handy for laptops, charging cell phones, or powering small kitchen appliances.
The wall of windows is certainly a beautiful feature within the home. Extending the Anjou Pear color to the bottom portion of the wall creates a pop of visual interest and allows the old color to keep it’s place on the upper portion of the wall. This allows completion of the project without the added time and expense of scaffolding.
In this home, the kitchen not only functions as a cooking space, it is also the; meeting space, office space, entertaining area, grandkids play area, and a place to relax and enjoy the view. Color unifies this large space and at the same time, enhances each of the different functions that coexist in it.
Notice the L.O.V.E. letters displayed on the bookshelves behind the desk, these repeat the Rave Red color as does the coca cola machine, canvas baskets and various accents. This repetition validates Rave Red and adds a contemporary look to the room. Rave Red now travels through the space, from the sidewall bulkhead… to the bookshelf… to the coke cooler in the corner of the room.
The space now has a homey and happy feel which is reflective of the family within the home.
The colors represented work well for a kitchen. Red is an energizing color, brown grounds you and yellow is an ideal color for the kitchen (think lemons and bananas)… bringing the colors together unifies and updates the space.
